Qries

Your money, your call!

Whenever someone tries to save up, we often label him kuripot. When an officemate could not join your lunch out because she has a baon, she'll most likely be called kuripot. When your best friend just got promoted but did not bother to treat you over lunch or dinner, expect that he'll be tagged kuripot. When your boyfriend opted to cook your favorite dish instead of dating you in a restaurant on your monthsarry, that would be sweet but some people will still take it against him and coined him kuripot for some reason.

There are dozens of scenarios where you could be identified as a kuripot. But, is it really bad to be one? Will it damage your reputation if you become one?

I'm KJ, a certified kuripot. My closest friends had long given up on the idea that someday, I'll be able to make them libre. I'm hopeless na raw, very makunat and a kuripot personified. Harsh, right? If they're not my real friends, I would've punched them so they can recall the few times that I've shared my blessings to them. The thing is, when you're already tagged as kuripot, those few times that you were feeling generous will be easily washed out. It's as if it never happened. Now that's harsher!

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate my friends for not appreciating my generosity. I love them all. There were times na their kuripot jokes are getting below the belt but I can still manage to get them out of the topic and move on to a different one. I guess, if you really know your friends, you'll know how to get away from the inside jokes smoothly.

Anyway, being kuripot is not something that you should be ashamed of. If you know that you're doing it for a good reason, embrace it. After all, at the end of the day, it's your money. Wherever you want to spend it, it's your call.

Do you have friends who call you kuripot too? How do you manage the conversation when the jokes start pouring in? Do you easily give in when they ask for a libre?
